Bringing fun into rehabilitation

Able-X is designed for community and home rehabilitation. It enables users, and their carers, to take ownership of their rehabilitation needs within a comfortable, familiar environment. It provides therapists with an engaging, mobile method of rehabilitation.

A bilateral exerciser for upper limb rehabilitation

The system combines customised computer games with rehabilitation to make the experience more enjoyable, and enable people to continue with their rehabilitation in their own home. It is a lightweight air mouse and handlebar system that works together with a series of computer exercises.

Unlike most computer activities the Able-X games are designed to help improve arm movements and cognitive skills. The Able-X allows the user’s good arm to guide the movement of the less functional arm. This system of bilateral movement has been shown to address two critical components of rehabilitation:

Compliance through a fun game format, with feedback for the user
A combination of repetitive exercise and active brain engagement

Research Based

Able-X builds on research that demonstrates new neurological pathways can be created by a combination of repetitive exercise linked to brain stimulation. Clinical trials showed a significant improvement in upper limb functioning after less than 10 hours of exercise.
