Orthotics
'An Orthosis is an externally applied device designed to modify the structural and functional characteristics of the neuromuscular and musculo-skeletal systems.'
The orthotics department is a leading edge, client orientated department that is dedicated to providing a quality and timely service. All assessments and fittings are conducted by a qualified orthotist and orthotic fabrication is completed by the orthotist and a qualified orthotic technician. Proceeds from sales received stay within the disability sector to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
The orthotics department provides orthoses to South Australian children and adults for the following reasons:
- disability management
- specialised paediatric disability management
- rehabilitation post-surgery
- sports injury management
- osteo/rheumatoid arthritis
- foot pain
- swelling control
- plagiocephaly, spinal deformity.
Orthotic management aims to achieve one or more of the following:
- correct biomechanical abnormalities
- prevent and reduce abnormal progression
- protect and immobilise joints and limbs
- provide pain relief
- provide rehabilitation from surgery.
